Lot 294: Anglo-Indian Style Carved Hardwood Tripod Side Table
An early 20th-century tripod side table, constructed from a dark-toned hardwood. The circular top features a broad border of relief-carved foliate and floral decoration. The structure comprises three curved legs terminating in out-swept feet, connected by a lower triangular stretcher shelf which also bears light carved motifs. The design is characteristic of export furniture produced for the Western market, in the style often associated with the oriental departments of retailers such as Liberty and Co. A modern adhesive label numbered 23 is present on the top surface.
Condition report:
The item is in a heavily worn condition. There is a prominent large dark stain or burn mark situated in the centre of the tabletop, which has damaged the finish and impacted the wood grain. The surfaces show numerous scratches, abrasions, and general signs of age and use. There is an accumulation of dust and residue within the recessed areas of the carving.
