A fireplace companion set in the late Victorian style. The set comprises a central stand on a tripod base with three stylised claw feet, which supports three fire tools: a shovel with a broad brass blade, a brush with a brass cap, and a pair of fire tongs. The handles are formed from cast and turned brass with decorative collars and large spherical ball finials. The tool shafts and the tripod stand are made from iron. No maker’s marks are visible. A small orange tag numbered 249 is attached to the stand handle.
Condition report:
The set is in used antique condition. The brass has a dark, aged patina throughout, with notable green verdigris oxidation present around the handle joints and decorative turnings. The iron shafts and stand show surface oxidation and areas of rust. The brush bristles are worn and flattened from use. One arm of the fire tongs is slightly bent.
