An Anglo-Indian carved hardwood side table of two-tier construction, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The top is of octagonal form with chamfered corners, featuring a central rectangular relief-carved panel depicting a tiger and an elephant flanking a palm tree. This central scene is enclosed by broad borders of deeply carved scrolling foliate and floral motifs, finished with a geometric carved edge. The table is supported by four profusely carved and pierced legs, decorated with scrolled foliate and bird-like designs. These legs support a lower shelf, which is also decorated with carved floral and foliate details. The piece is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood, possibly teak or padauk. A small orange and white auction inventory sticker is present on the top surface with the hand-written numbers 241 and 11. No maker’s marks, stamps, or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The table is in good overall condition consistent with its age. There is light surface wear, dust, and minor scuffing typical for a piece of this period. The intricate carving remains largely intact and well-defined.
