Lot 233: A Chinese Framed Print of Galloping Horses in the Style of Xu Beihong

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A Chinese work on paper, likely a mid-20th-century print, depicting two galloping horses in the expressive ink wash style synonymous with the artist Xu Beihong (1895–1953). The composition utilizes varied ink tones and gestural brushwork to convey movement, including the use of flying white strokes where the brush runs dry. To the lower left is a black ink signature, with the first character transcribed as 林 (Lin), situated above a square red artist’s seal in stylized seal script. The work is presented in a dark, textured wood-effect frame with an off-white mount under glass. A yellow auction house lot sticker numbered 233 11 is attached to the bottom right of the frame.

Condition report:

The item appears to be in generally good condition. There is some minor rippling to the paper surface, which is typical for works on thin traditional paper when framed. No significant foxing, staining, or visible tears are apparent. The piece has not been examined out of the frame.
