Lot 219: A Large Hand-Woven Willow Gathering Basket with Scalloped Rim
A large hand-woven wicker gathering basket or garden trug, constructed from natural willow. The basket features a broad, shallow basin with a distinctive undulating scalloped rim. It is fitted with a tall, stationary overhead handle of twisted wicker construction. The weave consists of radiating spokes and horizontal weavers, with a thick braided border at the rim and base. Two adhesive labels are present: an orange tag on the handle and a small white label printed with the number 13 at the handle terminal.
Condition report:
Sound structural condition overall. Surface displays natural patination and minor wear consistent with age and use. Small areas of light fraying to the willow strands are visible upon close inspection.
