Lot 196: A Collection of Antique and Vintage Metalware Including Horse Brasses, Fire Tongs, and a Coach Horn
An assortment of antique and vintage metalware and decorative objects housed in a black plastic crate. The collection includes several cast brass horse brasses, some mounted on a black leather strap, featuring various motifs including a thistle and a central figure within a scalloped border. Also present is a copper coach or post horn with white-metal mounts and a large pair of iron fire tongs featuring polished brass finials. The lot further contains components of a metal lantern or safety lamp, notably a cylindrical base fitted with a green glass lens, and a small silver-plated or pewter measure. A small white label with the handwritten number 14 14 is present on the interior of the crate. The items are presented in an as found state.
Condition report:
The collection is in as found condition with significant tarnish, oxidation, and surface wear consistent with age and use. Verdigris is present on several brass and copper items. The iron tongs exhibit surface corrosion and pitting. The leather components are worn and show signs of drying and cracking. The items exhibit a heavy patina throughout and require cleaning.
