Lot 161: Four Boxed W. Britain Toy Soldier Sets
This lot comprises four boxed sets of W. Britain toy soldiers. These figures are manufactured in England from hand-painted metal with a characteristic high-gloss finish. Each set is presented in its original maroon cardboard box with a yellow card display insert. The inserts feature the script W. Britain logo with BRITAIN’S TOY SOLDIERS and MADE IN ENGLAND printed below.
The first set is identified as the Honourable Artillery Company (Set 5291) in late 19th-century style uniform with red tunics and white pith helmets. It includes an officer with a sword, a standard bearer with a printed fabric-style Union Jack flag, and infantrymen in marching poses with rifles.
The second set consists of Life Guards cavalry. This mounted group includes an officer or trumpeter on a white horse and troopers on black horses, all dressed in red tunics with plumed helmets.
The third set features US Cavalry soldiers mounted on brown horses. The set includes figures wearing blue tunics and wide-brimmed campaign hats.
All figures remain securely tied to their original yellow cardboard inserts with original wire or cord fasteners.
Condition report:
The figures are in excellent, near-mint condition with bright, glossy paintwork and no apparent damage or paint loss. All figures remain fixed to their original card inserts. The original boxes show minor signs of shelf wear, including light edge scuffing and adhesive remnants from auction labels, but they remain structurally sound.
