JUNE AUCTION

Lot 153: Early 20th Century Framed Reverse-Painted Glass Shop Sign for M. Mylott Ladies and Childrens Outfitter

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A large rectangular commercial glass sign featuring white block lettering applied to the reverse of the pane. The sign was originally designed for mounting on the interior of a shop window, as the text is currently mirrored to be read correctly from the street. The lettering identifies the business as M. Mylott, followed by the description Ladies’ & Children’s Outfitter. The sign is housed in a dark-stained wooden frame with a visible grain. The text is laid out in three rows, separated by horizontal lines. The style of the lettering and the use of the term Outfitter are characteristic of retail signage from the late Victorian to the interwar period.

Condition report:

The sign is in good overall condition. The white lettering is largely intact with minimal loss, maintaining high legibility. The glass appears clear with no significant chips or cracks visible. The wooden frame shows signs of age-related wear, including minor scuffs, surface marks, and dust accumulation. A small orange lot sticker numbered 153 and a small white sticker with the numbers 3 3 are attached to the front of the frame.
