Lot 125: A Pair of Egyptian Style Carved Sculptures Depicting Processional Boats
This pair of carved sculptures, fashioned from a material resembling bone or resin, depicts processional scenes inspired by ancient Egyptian iconography. Each piece features a line of stylised figures aboard a slender, curved vessel reminiscent of a traditional papyrus boat. The larger sculpture displays seven figures in various dynamic poses, including standing and kneeling figures wearing traditional-style kilts and headdresses. The gunwale of the larger boat is decorated with a row of small circular indentations. The smaller boat includes six figures, with the central figure depicted as the falcon-headed deity Horus. The carvings exhibit a uniform creamy-white colour throughout. Both items bear adhesive labels: orange stickers with the handwritten digits 1, 2, and 5, and the smaller piece also features a white rectangular sticker with the printed numerals 1 and 4. The smaller boat is mounted onto a stepped, dark-toned rectangular plinth. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The sculptures appear to be in good overall condition with no significant chips, cracks, or visible repairs observed. There is minor surface dust present in the crevices of the carvings. The adhesive labels may leave residue upon removal.
