A set of three fireplace tools comprising a pair of tongs and two pokers. The pieces are constructed with cast brass handles in a baluster design, each topped with a spherical finial. These handles are fitted to wrought iron shafts. The tongs include a central circular hinge mechanism, while the pokers are forged with pointed and hooked ends respectively. There are no manufacturer’s marks visible on the metalwork. The tools are presented on a mid-20th-century Hollywood Regency style two-tier trolley, which features a gilt metal frame and panels with a faux-marble effect.
Condition report:
The items show signs of age and regular use. The brass handles have a dull patina with areas of surface tarnishing. The iron shafts exhibit surface oxidisation and minor pitting consistent with heat exposure. The accompanying trolley shows wear to the gilt finish and light surface scratching to the tiers.
