Lot 93: Two pieces of late 19th-century English ironstone tableware in the Imari style

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

Two items of late Victorian or early 20th-century English ceramic tableware, likely ironstone, decorated in a traditional Imari palette of underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron-red, and gilt highlights. The first item is a rectangular lidded dish, possibly for butter or cheese, featuring a matching lid with a loop handle. The decoration consists of stylised floral motifs, including peonies and chrysanthemums. The second item is a circular muffin dish and cover, with the domed lid featuring a finial modelled as a fruiting or leafy branch with gilded accents. Both pieces exhibit a dense foliate and floral border. The pattern and form are closely related to Minton’s Poonah pattern and similar productions from Staffordshire potteries such as Mason’s or Davenport, although no maker’s marks are visible.

Condition report:

Both items exhibit signs of age-related wear. The rectangular dish shows visible crazing to the glaze on the interior and base. There is minor rubbing to the gilding on the handles, finials, and rims. Contemporary auction lot stickers are adhered to the surfaces. No chips, cracks, or professional repairs are visible upon inspection.
