A rectangular silver plated jewellery box featuring a hinged lid with a small projecting thumbpiece. The exterior is decorated throughout with intricate repoussé and chased foliate scrollwork and floral motifs, arranged within a series of circular and lozenge-shaped borders. The interior surfaces also appear to be decorated with an embossed pattern. The lid features a plain, central rectangular cartouche which has been hand-scratched with the name Laithwaite. No official silver hallmarks or maker marks are visible on the object. The item is visually identical to designs produced by the Godinger Silver Art Co. circa 1992.
Condition report:
The box exhibits minor surface wear and fine scratches consistent with age, particularly to the central cartouche area. Two adhesive labels are present on the lid (white label 15 15 and orange label 871). The hinge is functional and the structure is sound.
