Lot 8: A Trio of Framed Victorian Pratt Ware Style Pot Lids

Live auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A trio of circular glazed earthenware pot lids featuring polychrome underglaze transfer-printed scenes, characteristic of mid-to-late 19th-century Staffordshire production. One lid depicts a sporting scene titled THE GAME BAG, showing a hunter resting with his dogs and a haul of game. The other two lids illustrate a scene from the Cries of London series titled Primroses – Yellow Primroses, after the works of Francis Wheatley, depicting flower sellers in 18th-century attire. The ceramic plaques are mounted in circular wooden frames; one is finished in a dark ebonised tone, while the other two are set in matching mahogany-coloured frames with a deep profile. The titles of each scene are printed along the edge of the ceramic inserts. These items resemble the polychrome pot lids produced by F. & R. Pratt of Fenton.

Condition report:

The wooden frames exhibit typical age-related wear, including minor surface scuffs and scratches. The ceramic inserts appear to be in good structural condition with no visible chips or cracks. Fine surface crazing is present on the Game Bag plaque, which is a common feature of earthenware from this period. The items have not been examined out of their frames.
