Lot 796: Two Carved Natural Material Figurines of Ganesha and a Mythical Lion
This lot consists of two small carved figurines, each mounted on a fitted dark wood base. The first figurine is a carved white natural material figure, possibly bone or alabaster, depicting the Hindu deity Ganesha. The deity is shown seated in the traditional lalitasana posture on a low pedestal. He is depicted with four arms holding various symbolic attributes, including a goad and a noose, and is adorned with a tiered karanda mukuta crown and traditional jewellery. This figure is mounted on a custom-fitted, dark-stained circular wooden plinth. The second figurine is a carved representation of a stylized mythical guardian lion or chinthe, matching the material of the Ganesha figure. The creature is depicted in a recumbent position with an open mouth, prominent eyes, and a highly detailed, scrolling mane and tail. It is mounted on an ornate, dark-stained wooden stand with four small cabriole-style feet. Both items feature detailed carving typical of mid-20th-century decorative pieces from South or Southeast Asia. Adhesive auction tags marked 796 and 15 are visible on the bases.
Condition report:
Both items appear to be in good overall condition with no significant chips or cracks visible. There is some minor surface dust and natural patination consistent with age.
