Lot 794: A Vintage Travel Shaving Set Attributed to Gillette, Possibly WWI Military Issue
A vintage safety razor set presented in a metal travel case with a blue velvet-lined interior. The collection features knurled metal handles: one with a brass-toned finish exhibiting surface oxidation, and another with a silver-toned chrome finish. The set includes an open-comb safety razor head. A small, aged cardboard box designed for spare blades is also contained within the case. An orange adhesive tag with the handwritten number 794 is attached to the brass-toned handle. The design characteristics and presentation are indicative of a Gillette Khaki Set, which was issued to military personnel during the First World War. While these features suggest a Gillette manufacture, no specific maker marks or patent dates are clearly visible on the metal components.
Condition report:
The set is in used vintage condition. The brass handle shows notable oxidation and tarnish. The chrome-finished handle and razor head show moderate surface wear and minor scratches. The metal case has exterior rubbing and light surface rust. The velvet lining is worn and shows some discolouration and loss of pile in areas. The cardboard blade box is intact but shows significant ageing and wear.
