A seated figure of the Laughing Buddha, also known as Budai, crafted from a moulded black composite material. The figure is depicted in a traditional joyful pose with a prominent bare abdomen and elongated earlobes. He holds a string of large prayer beads, or mala, in his raised right hand and a Ruyi sceptre in his left. The piece features a dark, semi-matte finish throughout. An orange adhesive inventory label with the handwritten number 774 is present on the abdomen. No visible maker’s marks, reign marks, or inscriptions are discernible.
Condition report:
The figure exhibits surface dust and cobwebs consistent with long-term storage. There is light surface wear and minor scuffing to the base and raised details. The adhesive label remains attached. No significant cracks or structural repairs are evident.
