Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two vintage travel trunks of differing construction. The upper item is a large suitcase or portmanteau, featuring a brown leather exterior with a deep patina. It is constructed with reinforced leather corners and hand-stitched seams. The front is fitted with two vertical leather straps with metal buckles and a central metal lock plate. The lower item is a large steamer trunk, likely of wood or vulcanised fibre construction with a dark green or black textured finish. It is reinforced with brass-toned metal edging and corner protectors. The trunk is secured by three front latches, including a central lock mechanism. The lid is stencilled with the initials M.U.C. in white lettering. A partially adhered paper travel label from the New Zealand Shipping Co., depicting a red kiwi, is visible on the front panel.

Condition report:

Both items show significant signs of age and historical travel use. The leather suitcase exhibits heavy distressing, including cracking, scuffing, and loss of finish to the leather, with visible wear to the straps and buckles. The steamer trunk shows surface wear, scuffs to the exterior coating, and oxidation to the metal hardware. The paper label is partially peeled and worn.
