Lot 742: Two Antique Victorian Style Steamer Trunks
A pair of travel trunks comprising a large leather steamer trunk and a smaller hard-sided travel chest. The upper trunk is constructed from stitched brown leather with reinforced corners and metal studs, featuring a central leather latch cover and a partial vertical leather security strap with a metal buckle. The lower trunk is finished in a brown textured material, reinforced with vertical bands and metal corner protectors, and fitted with two brass-toned metal lever latches with central keyholes. Both items demonstrate construction techniques characteristic of late 19th and early 20th-century luggage.
Condition report:
Both trunks show significant signs of age-related wear and historical use. The upper leather trunk exhibits heavy distressing, surface cracking, scuffing, and wear to the leather straps. The lower trunk shows surface scuffing and minor oxidisation to the metal components. A small adhesive tag is present on the front of the lower chest.
