An early 20th-century open bookcase or what-not constructed from oak in the Arts and Crafts style. The piece comprises three fixed horizontal shelves housed between two vertical side panels. These side panels feature decoratively shaped tops that function as integrated carry-handles and are further detailed with pierced scrolling and rectangular cut-out motifs. The construction reflects the simple, functional lines characteristic of British furniture manufacture from the early 1900s. No maker’s marks or manufacturer stamps are visible on the surfaces, although a modern rectangular inventory label is adhered to one upright.
Condition report:
The item is in used condition with wear consistent with its age. Visible surface scratches, scuffs, and areas of finish loss are present, particularly concentrated along the edges of the uprights and on the shelf surfaces.
