Lot 533: A Pair of Nested Glazed Stoneware Planters
A pair of graduated, nested stoneware vessels, likely intended for use as garden or interior planters. The larger outer pot features a dark grey textured glaze to the exterior body, decorated with vertically impressed dash marks, and a broad unglazed rim in a buff-coloured tone. The smaller inner pot is decorated with a wide glazed band around the shoulder in earth tones of olive green and mustard brown, featuring a stylized multi-petalled floral or sunburst motif applied in a cream-coloured slip. The interiors and rims of both vessels show the coarse, unglazed texture of the stoneware body. There are no factory marks, signatures, or backstamps visible; internal orange and white stickers denote lot or price markings. The style is consistent with late 20th-century commercial or studio-style decorative pottery.
Condition report:
The larger outer pot has a significant chip to the outer edge of the rim. Both items exhibit surface wear, minor scuffing, and general signs of previous use consistent with their nature.
