A late Victorian or Edwardian bobbin-turned rocking chair, of a type commonly known as a carpet rocker or folding nursing chair. The frame is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood, possibly beech, featuring extensive spool or bobbin-turned spindles to the backrest supports, armrests, and side stretchers. The chair is designed with a spring rocking mechanism and a folding frame.
The backrest and seat are inset with upholstered panels in a cream-ground tapestry fabric, decorated with a repeating floral lattice pattern in muted tones of red, blue, and green. The upholstery is finished with a matching decorative braided gimp trim. The lot includes a separate rectangular loose cushion upholstered in the same tapestry fabric.
A small yellow adhesive label is present on the interior of one backrest spindle, though the text is not legible. A white tag is attached to the separate cushion with the handwritten characters 2 and 2. No manufacturer marks or stamps are visible on the wooden frame.
Condition report:
The chair and cushion are in good vintage condition. The wooden frame shows minor surface wear, including light scuffs and scratches consistent with age and typical use. The tapestry upholstery and matching cushion appear clean and well-preserved, with no significant staining, tears, or fraying to the fabric or trim.
