A pair of rustic stained hardwood country stools, likely of British origin and dating to the 20th century. Each stool features a thick, solid rectangular seat with well-rounded edges and corners. They are supported by four ring-turned, tapering splayed legs that are socketed directly into the underside of the seat. The wood is finished in a dark stain, highlighting a prominent grain consistent with a hardwood such as elm or oak. No maker’s marks or factory stamps were identified on the pieces. Two orange rectangular adhesive labels are present on the underside, transcribed as £85, which appear to be previous dealer or lot price labels.
Condition report:
The stools are in used condition consistent with their rustic style. One stool shows a significant longitudinal split or check on the underside of the seat. There is general surface wear throughout, including small knocks, scratches, and some thinning of the stained finish on the edges and feet.
