Lot 477: An early 20th-century Arts and Crafts style oak book trough
This is an early 20th-century oak book trough, designed in the Arts and Crafts style for tabletop use. The unit consists of two upright side panels supporting a single, fixed, V-shaped angled shelf. The side panels have arched tops, each detailed with a narrow band of decorative contrasting geometric inlay along the curve. The entire piece is made from oak with a dark-stained finish. Two contemporary paper labels, one orange and one white with a printed character 1, are adhered to the inner side of the right-hand panel. No maker marks, stamps, or labels are visible.
Condition report:
The book trough shows signs of age and use, including several scuffs, scratches, and areas of minor finish wear across the surfaces. These marks are more pronounced on the base of the side panels and along the edges of the central shelf. The structure appears sound with no evidence of major damage or restoration. The modern adhesive labels remain attached.
