Lot 467: A Trio of Mid-20th Century Hand-Carved Hardwood Nesting Tables
A set of three graduated nesting tables of traditional Anglo-Indian design, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The tables are constructed from solid hardwood, possibly sheesham, with a warm medium-brown polished finish. Each table top features dense, deep relief hand carving; the largest table displays a central oval cartouche containing scrolling foliate patterns, surrounded by a broad border of repeating floral motifs. The tops have shaped, undulating edges that follow the carved detail. The tables are supported by bobbin-turned legs joined by plain, square-section stretchers for stability. No maker marks are visible, however, contemporary auction inventory stickers are present, including a white label numbered 15 15 and a yellow label numbered 467.
Condition report:
The tables appear to be in good overall condition. There are minor surface scuffs and light scratches consistent with age and domestic use. Some accumulated dust is present within the crevices of the carving. The polished finish remains largely intact.
