Lot 459: George III Style Mahogany Fretwork Wall Mirror
A mahogany wall mirror in the George III style. The frame is constructed with a fret-carved cresting and apron, featuring characteristic scrolled ears. The rectangular mirror plate is recessed within a decorative gilded inner slip, which is ornamented with a carved foliate or gadrooned pattern. The timber exhibits a deep grain and a developed patina. No maker’s marks or signatures are visible. Two contemporary auction labels are adhered to the face of the frame, numbered 459 and 2.
Condition report:
The frame is structurally sound with light surface scratches and minor wear consistent with age and use. The mirror glass displays areas of foxing and minor silvering loss, particularly towards the edges.
