Lot 398: Two vintage decorative items including a lidded woven basket and a folk-art style wooden toy horse
This lot comprises two vintage decorative items. The first is an oval-shaped lidded storage basket constructed from two-tone woven wicker and rattan. It features a hinged lid and a woven loop fastener on the front. The weave pattern consists of alternating natural and dark-stained fibres. The second item is a decorative folk-art style toy horse mounted on a frame. The figure is made from carved and turned wood with a hand-painted finish. The horse is decorated in a distressed white and grey base with a red-painted saddle and harness, featuring yellow and black accents. It is mounted on a four-point black-painted wooden or metal frame. Three orange adhesive labels with the handwritten number 398 are affixed to the top of the basket, the back of the horse, and the supporting tray.
Condition report:
The woven basket is in good vintage condition with minor surface wear to the wicker fibres. The toy horse exhibits deliberate paint distressing and age-related craquelure, along with some wear to the painted surface consistent with its aesthetic. The black frame shows light scuffing. Both items appear structurally sound and complete.
