An assortment of hardcover volumes comprising children’s stories and classical literature. The collection includes a copy of D’Aulnoy’s Fairy Tales with a colour-illustrated pictorial front board depicting a figure on a white horse. A blue cloth-bound edition of A Wonder-Book by Nathaniel Hawthorne is present, featuring decorative stamping to the cover. A large-format edition titled The Book of Dogs, illustrated by Detmold, features an oval pictorial inlay of a puppy on the front board. Also visible is a small-format volume by Beatrix Potter, published by F. Warne and Co, and a reddish-brown volume with a pictorial cover indicating it contains colour plates and is by Margaret (likely Margaret Tarrant). Several red-bound volumes are stacked at the base of the lot. All visible volumes are in publisher’s cloth or pictorial boards. No dust jackets were observed during inspection.
Condition report:
The volumes show general signs of age-related wear and handling. Observable defects include scuffing, edge wear, and bumped corners to the bindings. Some covers exhibit fading, soiling, and light abrasions. The Detmold volume shows notable rubbing to the board edges and corners. The pictorial inlay on the D\'Aulnoy volume shows some surface wear and minor loss at the edges. Internal pages and bindings were not examined for completeness or foxing.
