This lot consists of a collection of Edwardian-era newspapers and periodicals secured together with twine. The primary visible item is a commemorative issue of the Lady’s Pictorial, Volume LIX, Number 1524, dated 14 May 1910. This special issue was published to mark the death of King Edward VII, which occurred on 6 May 1910, and is titled In Memoriam King Edward VII. The cover features a central oval portrait of the King, flanked by two allegorical winged female figures, with a British lion positioned behind them. Banners within the illustration display the mottos Dieu and Droit. The publication was produced at 172 Strand, London, and was priced at one shilling. It is a large format paper-bound periodical. The bundle appears to contain several other contemporary newspapers or ephemera of a similar size.
Condition report:
The visible periodical shows significant signs of age and wear. There is notable foxing and browning throughout the paper stock. The right-hand edge is tattered with several tears and areas of paper loss. White surface deposits or stains are present on the central illustration. A vertical fold line is visible down the centre of the pages. An orange and white adhesive auction lot sticker numbered 387 is affixed to the front cover. The items beneath the top copy have not been individually inspected for condition or completeness.
