Lot 382: An Antique Wooden Barrel Butter Churn
An antique wooden barrel butter churn of cylindrical form, constructed from light-toned timber staves. The vessel features a circular end plate secured by vertical wooden battens and steel screws. A central iron crank handle with an offset grip is mounted through the face to operate the internal mechanism. The churn is mounted upon a wooden support frame. The form and construction are highly characteristic of those produced by Richmond Cedar Works in the late 19th or early 20th century.
Condition report:
The churn displays signs of age and utility including surface staining, patination, and minor abrasions to the timber. The iron crank handle shows surface oxidation and pitting.
