Lot 378: A Collection of Modern Egyptian Style Papyrus Paintings
A collection of modern decorative paintings executed in pigments on papyrus, featuring traditional Egyptian subjects. The assortment includes a large framed work depicting a seated figure in profile with hieroglyphic text, and a circular composition representing the Dendera zodiac with a central blue motif and peripheral figures. The zodiac piece is inscribed with the word LIBRA and numerical dates 24.9 and 23.10. Other works in the collection depict various figurative scenes typical of contemporary papyrus art. The pieces are presented in a range of mounts and glazed frames, including one black-framed example and several loose in white cardboard mounts. The papyrus supports exhibit natural textures and deckled edges.
Condition report:
The paintings are in good condition. The papyrus supports have natural irregular edges and textures inherent to the material. There is minor surface wear to some frames and mounts. Several pieces have small orange adhesive stickers numbered 378 on the glazing.
