Lot 343: Vintage BBC Bridge Companion Electronic Game Console and Bridge Builder Cartridge
A BBC Bridge Companion electronic bridge-playing computer, dating to the mid-1980s. The device is constructed with a two-tone plastic housing featuring a light grey upper section and a charcoal grey lower control panel. The interface is designed specifically for bridge gameplay, featuring dedicated push buttons for suit bidding (Spades, Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs), NT (No Trump), Pass, Dbl (Double), Rdbl (Redouble), Yes, No, Start, and Back. A red indicator lamp is located on the front panel. Included with the console is a Bridge Builder game cartridge, marked as a Unicard product with a 1985 copyright date. The unit is equipped with an integrated power cable terminated with a standard UK 3-pin plug and a secondary black cable with a multi-pin DIN connector for video output. The console is held within its original white polystyrene protective tray.
Condition report:
The unit appears to be in good physical condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use. The cables are tangled and show some white residue likely from contact with the polystyrene. The original polystyrene tray is present but shows wear and is missing its outer cardboard box. The device is sold as untested; functional status is unknown.
