Lot 33: A Collection of Japanese Red and Black Lacquerware Table Service and Decorative Items
An assortment of Japanese lacquerware (urushi) featuring traditional vermilion and black finishes. The collection includes a graduated stack of bowls with black exteriors and red interiors, a large lidded circular bowl, a smaller lidded bowl, and multiple small cups. Service pieces consist of a rectangular tray holding a small lidded box and a set of utensils including a spoon with a gold-toned bowl decorated with a floral motif and a matching fork. Also included are several decorative lidded boxes, one of which features dense gold maki-e style botanical and floral decoration across the lid. Two of the lidded boxes are inscribed with gold-toned kanji characters: Fuku (good fortune) and Ju (longevity). The items are constructed from lacquer over a wood or composite base.
Condition report:
The items are in generally good used condition with light surface scuffing and minor wear consistent with age and use. Two modern adhesive auction stickers are present on the lid of the circular decorative box. One cup within the stack shows a small area of surface wear to the rim.
