A mid-20th-century travel or steamer trunk of rectangular form with a flat lid. The exterior is constructed from black-painted vulcanised fiberboard over a wooden internal frame, reinforced with metal-strapped edges and numerous rivets. The corners are protected by reinforced metal bumpers. The front is fitted with a central circular metal lock plate and two flanking draw-bolt latches. The interior is lined with a brown and white houndstooth patterned paper. No maker’s marks or manufacturer’s names are visible on the body or hardware.
Dimensions: Not measured.
Condition report:
The trunk is in a well-used condition. The black exterior finish exhibits significant scuffing, scratches, and areas of surface loss, particularly around the central lock and lower edges. The metal hardware and strapping show surface oxidation and tarnishing consistent with age and use. Residual adhesive tape and clear plastic sheeting are present around the lid opening.
