Lot 273: Two Advent Calendars, including a Villeroy & Boch Ceramic Tree
A lot comprising two advent calendars of differing materials. The first is a Villeroy & Boch ceramic advent tree from the Christmas Toys Memory collection. The piece is fashioned as a tiered evergreen tree in a deep green glaze with white-brushed edges to simulate snow. It features scattered gold-tone stars and red-script numbers from 1 to 24, each with a corresponding metal hook for hanging miniature ornaments. The tree is topped with a yellow star finial numbered 24. The green base is clearly marked with the Villeroy & Boch factory stamp below a heraldic crest featuring two lions. The second item is a wall-hanging advent calendar constructed from printed composite board, shaped as a large tied bow in red and yellow tones. The centre is decorated with a festive illustration of Santa Claus riding a reindeer surrounded by holly. It contains twenty-four small hinged doors, each fitted with a miniature red plastic bow-shaped pull.
Condition report:
The Villeroy & Boch ceramic tree is in good condition with no visible chips, cracks, or restoration. All metal hooks are present; however, the miniature ornaments are missing from this lot. The wooden bow-shaped calendar shows notable signs of age and use, including surface wear and areas of brown staining and foxing to the printed lithographic surface, most visible on the yellow sections of the bow.
