Lot 24: A Pair of Chinese Famille Rose Porcelain Sleeve Vases
A pair of cylindrical porcelain sleeve vases decorated in the Famille Rose palette with hand-painted polychrome enamels. One vase features a traditional boys at play scene set within a garden with rocky outcrops and a balustrade, symbolising a wish for many descendants. The second vase depicts a landscape scene centred on a large gnarled tree amongst rocks. Both vessels share a matching decorative scheme including a foliate and floral scrolling band on a pale green ground at the neck, bordered by iron-red lines, and a geometric pattern running around the base. One vase is mounted on a metal base for use as a lamp. No maker’s marks or reign marks are visible.
Condition report:
The porcelain bodies appear to be in good overall condition with no significant cracks or large chips visible on the exterior. The vase converted to a lamp is likely drilled through the base to accommodate the mounting. Some light surface wear and minor loss to the enamel decoration consistent with age. Electrical components are untested.
