A carved wooden sculpture of a stylized horse, executed in a minimalist modernist style. The piece is constructed from a light-coloured wood exhibiting a prominent vertical grain and an unsealed, raw surface. The form emphasises the sweeping arch of the neck and the rectangular volume of the body, while the head is simplified into a rounded, featureless shape. The sculpture is mounted upon two thin metal supports which are fixed into a stepped rectangular plinth. This base consists of a black-finished upper block and a natural wood lower block. There are no visible signatures, maker’s marks, or inscriptions on the piece or its base.
Condition report:
The item is in fair condition. There are several visible drying cracks, or checking, in the wood, primarily running vertically along the neck and body. The surface shows minor abrasions and small indentations consistent with the soft nature of the timber and general age. There is some minor wear and light scuffing to the painted surface of the base.
