A French architectural mantel clock dating to circa 1870. The case is constructed from black slate with inset circular rouge marble panels and features a classical design with four scroll-form pillars. A large glazed aperture to the front provides a view of the compensated pendulum. The white enamel chapter ring features black Roman numerals and an outer minute track, with a visible Brocot escapement at the centre with jewelled pallets. The dial is signed L. Habautte, Successeur d’Aubert, a Paris. The eight-day mechanical movement features two winding apertures for a striking mechanism. The clock is accompanied by a compensated pendulum and a winding key.
Condition report:
The clock appears to be in good overall condition and is complete with its pendulum and key. The slate case shows minor surface wear and small nibbles to the edges, consistent with age. The enamel dial is well-preserved with no visible hairlines or damage. The movement is untested for working order or timekeeping.
