Lot 177: A Large Viresa Green Glass Demijohn Bottle
A large vintage glass demijohn or carboy produced by the Spanish manufacturer Viresa. The vessel is crafted from hand-blown glass in a pale olive green colour. The globular form exhibits slight irregularities and small air bubbles, known as seeds, within the glass which are characteristic of the hand-blowing technique. It features a short, wide neck finished with a thick, reinforced rim. The maker mark VIRESA followed by a period is embossed vertically on the side of the rim. These utilitarian vessels were originally designed for the bulk storage and transport of liquids like wine or oil and are now frequently repurposed for decorative use as floor vases or terrariums.
Condition report:
The vessel is in good overall condition with no visible chips, cracks, or structural damage. There is some internal residue and light surface wear consistent with its age and original utilitarian purpose. A small orange adhesive label is present on the neck.
