Lot 131: A Pair of Middle Eastern Style Hand Hammered Copper Footed Bowl and Circular Tray
A pair of copper items consisting of a footed bowl and a matching circular tray. The bowl is of cauldron form with a hand-hammered planished surface and is supported by three cast metal ball-and-claw style feet. The matching circular tray features a hand-crimped scalloped rim and is decorated with an intricate centrally-themed etched pattern of scrolling foliate and geometric motifs. Both pieces show evidence of traditional hand-craftsmanship. There are no maker’s marks or hallmarks visible on either item. An orange adhesive lot tag marked 131 is present on the side of the bowl.
Condition report:
The items exhibit a heavy aged patina with significant darkening and oxidisation across the copper surfaces. Areas of green verdigris corrosion are visible on the surface of the tray. There is general surface wear, including minor scratches and small indentations, consistent with age and utilitarian use.
