Lot 504: A Collection of Decorative French Style Painted Lidded Storage Boxes
A collection of decorative lidded storage boxes of varying rectangular dimensions. The boxes are constructed from wood or a composite material with a white-painted finish. Each box is decorated with black printed graphics on the front and lid in the style of vintage French commercial packaging. The text includes Manufacture de Passementeries, Fondée en 1842, and Anciennes Maisons Jean Cornet – J.A. Cornet, with Marius Cornet prominently displayed within a decorative central scroll. Further inscriptions include the location Villeurbanne and a simulated handwritten date of 21 mai 1901. The design incorporates a crest depicting a lion with an anchor and staff. The pieces are finished in a distressed aesthetic.
Condition report:
The boxes display intentional distressing and wear to the paintwork, particularly along the edges and corners, consistent with the desired decorative style. Some minor surface marking and adhesive label residue are present.
