Lot 407: Late Victorian or Edwardian Stained Hardwood Coal Scuttle with Removable Galvanised Liner

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

A utility fuel bin from the late 19th or early 20th century, constructed with a stained hardwood outer box of rectangular form. The interior features a removable liner made of galvanised sheet metal or zinc, designed to hold coal or logs for a domestic hearth. The liner includes two arched wire-form handles and is constructed with folded and riveted seams. The wooden carcass is of joinery construction. The item retains an orange auction lot sticker numbered 407 and a smaller white label on the exterior side.

Condition report:

The scuttle is in fair antique condition. The wooden surfaces show evidence of significant use, including surface scuffs, scratches, and wear to the finish, particularly along the edges and corners. The metal liner exhibits a heavy patina with extensive oxidation, surface grime, and areas of light corrosion to the metal handles.
