APRIL AUCTION

Lot 392: A Pearson & Co. Whittington Moor Stoneware Foot Warmer and Basin

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This lot comprises two pieces of English salt-glazed stoneware. The first is a cylindrical foot warmer, often referred to as a pig, manufactured by Pearson & Co. of Whittington Moor, Chesterfield. It features a flattened base to prevent rolling and a raised filling neck. The warmer is finished in a light buff-coloured glaze and includes its original white ceramic screw-in stopper. An impressed circular maker’s mark is present on the shoulder, reading Whittington Pearson Co. The second item is a shallow stoneware basin with a cream-glazed interior and a contrasting dark brown glazed rim. These items are characteristic of British domestic pottery from the late 19th to early 20th century.

Condition report:

Both items show extensive fine crazing to the glaze surface, typical for salt-glazed stoneware of this period. The ceramic stopper is present and in functional condition with some surface discolouration. There are various modern inventory and price labels attached. No major chips or structural cracks are visible from the primary inspection.
