An Edwardian style mahogany firescreen of rectangular form. The mahogany frame features a high, shaped top rail incorporating a pierced carry handle. The central inset panel is decorated with diamond-matched wood veneers, possibly of walnut or a lighter cut of mahogany. The piece is supported by a pair of splayed, curved trestle-style legs. No maker’s marks or labels are visible on the object.
Condition report:
The item is in fair condition with notable age-related wear. The central veneered panel shows significant water staining and discolouration, particularly around the edges and across a large central area. The mahogany frame has various surface scuffs, small nicks, and wear to the finish consistent with use. One foot has a small chip at the base.
