APRIL AUCTION

Lot 372: An Antique Crown Glass Bullseye Pane

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This is a rectangular pane of antique crown glass, featuring a prominent central bullseye pontil mark. The glass was produced using traditional hand-blowing techniques, as shown by the characteristic undulations, flow lines known as reams, and small air bubbles called seeds trapped within the material. It has a pale aqua-green tint, typical of historic glass production with iron impurities. The central bullseye is thickened and displays a rough, swirled texture where it was detached from the pontil rod. The pane is mounted onto a beige textured backing board with a brown card border and is partially enclosed in a decorative gilt-finished frame. Two adhesive inventory labels are present: a white sticker with 12 12 handwritten in black ink and an orange sticker with 372 printed in black.

Condition report:

The glass is in good antique condition. There is surface wear consistent with age, including minor scuffs and a small pinkish mark on the lower section.
