A collection of wall mirrors featuring frames constructed from giltwood and moulded composition. The group includes an oval mirror with continuous scrolling foliage and C-scroll motifs at the cardinal points. A larger cartouche-shaped mirror features an openwork frame with intricate pierced scrollwork and acanthus leaf swags. Another substantial shaped mirror includes a shell-and-foliate cresting and a scrolling border. The mirrors display characteristic features of the Rococo Revival style, including asymmetrical C-scrolls and deep relief moulding. Several mirrors have labels, including a white adhesive label on the glass of the right-hand mirror marked 2 2 and orange inventory stickers, one marked with the number 369.
Condition report:
The frames show typical age-related wear, including fine cracking to the composition material and rubbing to the gilded surfaces, particularly on the raised highlights. The mirror plates exhibit varying degrees of foxing and minor silvering loss, notably around the edges of the oval mirror. Accumulated dust is present in the recesses of the ornate carvings.
