Lot 363: Henry: A Collection of Contemporary Paintings on Papyrus Depicting Ancient Egyptian Scenes (Signed)
A collection of contemporary paintings on papyrus, each depicting various Ancient Egyptian scenes and motifs in a traditional style. The subjects include the funerary mask of Tutankhamun, pharaohs in horse-drawn chariots engaged in hunting and battle, an offering scene involving a seated deity, and the god Anubis in jackal form atop a funerary shrine. The works are rendered in a palette of blue, red, gold, and black pigments on natural papyrus supports with characteristic textures and deckled edges. Several pieces are signed in the lower right corner with the name Henry in Latin script, accompanied by characters in Arabic script. The paintings are presented with cream-coloured mounts in a variety of gold-toned and wood-effect frames.
Condition report:
The collection is in generally good condition. The papyrus supports show natural irregularities and occasional light rippling consistent with the material. Frames exhibit minor surface wear, scuffs to the edges, and dust. Lot stickers are present on several of the frames.
