A decorative fireplace poker constructed from cast brass. The handle is fashioned in the form of a bird’s talon or eagle’s claw clutching a ball, featuring textured scale detailing and a bulbous ribbed collar at the junction with the shaft. The shaft consists of a slender, solid brass rod that tapers slightly towards the terminal. No manufacturer marks, hallmarks, or stamps are visible on the metal surfaces. A small white adhesive label bearing the number 19 is present on the neck of the handle.
Condition report:
The item displays a dark, aged patina with visible oxidation and surface tarnish consistent with use and age, particularly within the recessed areas of the casting. General surface wear and minor scratching are present throughout. The metal shaft remains straight and the structural integrity is sound.
