APRIL AUCTION

Lot 285: Late 19th or Early 20th Century Enamel-Lined Cast Iron Hanging Cauldron

The auction will start in __ days and __ hours

Start price: £2

Buyer's Premium:

This is a utilitarian cast iron cauldron or cooking pot, typically used for hearth or range cooking. The pot is constructed from heavy cast iron with a dark, textured finish on the exterior. The interior is finished with a white vitreous enamel lining. The vessel is equipped with a stout metal bail handle featuring a central notched kink, which allows it to hang securely from a hook, crane, or tripod. While similar items are often associated with foundries such as Marietta PA, no maker marks or stamps are visible on this piece to provide a definitive attribution.

Condition report:

The item shows signs of significant age-related use. The interior enamel is extensively crazed and stained with some visible chips, particularly near the top rim. The cast iron exterior shows a typical aged and seasoned patina. The bail handle exhibits significant surface rust and oxidation throughout.
