Lot 237: An Early 20th Century Walking Cane with Yellow Synthetic Crook Handle and Ebonised Shaft
This walking cane features a curved crook-style handle manufactured from a smooth, yellow synthetic material, likely an early plastic such as cellulose nitrate or bakelite. A plain white metal collar joins the handle to a tapered ebonised wooden shaft with a smooth black finish. The base of the cane is fitted with a standard metal ferrule. There are no maker’s marks or hallmarks visible on the metal collar or handle.
Condition report:
The cane is in good overall condition with minor surface wear and scuffing consistent with age and regular use, particularly to the ebonised finish of the shaft. The metal ferrule shows typical wear at the ground contact point. Two adhesive auction labels are present: a small white sticker on the handle and a yellow lot sticker on the shaft.
