Lot 219: Vintage Mid-20th Century Plush Dog Push-Along Toy on Red Metal Frame
A vintage push-along toy dog, attributed to mid-century British manufacturers such as Lines Brothers (Tri-ang) or Pedigree. The toy features a long-eared dog, likely a spaniel, crafted from golden-tan plush fabric, possibly a mohair or wool blend. The dog is detailed with amber-coloured glass eyes and a hand-stitched black nose and mouth. It is mounted upon a red-painted tubular metal chassis with a tall U-shaped rear pushing handle and a small horizontal wooden handle at the front. The unit is supported by four metal wheels fitted with solid black rubber tyres. This style of nursery toy was a common feature of British childhoods during the 1940s and 1950s.
Condition report:
The item shows significant signs of age and play-related wear. The plush fabric is heavily matted and exhibits thinning and balding in several areas, notably around the face and ears. There is widespread surface discolouration and soiling to the textile. The red paint on the metal chassis is heavily chipped with visible surface oxidation and rust on the exposed metalwork. The rubber tyres remain intact but show hardening and wear consistent with age. Structurally, the toy remains complete and the pushing mechanism is functional.
